National Heavy Equipment Operators School is pleased to recognize Mr. Dean Harris as a featured graduate. We chose Dean because he displayed tremendous courage in making a career change. Dean has placed a premium on his family that we salute.

Prior to becoming a gainful heavy equipment operator, Dean owned and operated his own business. Dean fed his family by operating full motion simulators as an amusement for folks in places like shopping malls. Malls usually cater to the public from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM or later, 7 days a week. This left very little time for Dean to spend with his family. Dean had tried other professions too. He dabbled in general contracting and even janitorial serves. All took there toll on Dean and his family. Dean had had enough of dealing with the public. He was also quite tired of not being able spend time with his loved ones.

Meet Linda Joyner from Orange Park, Florida.

National Heavy Equipment Operator School’s Graduate of the Month for February 2011.

Linda is a mother to 3 children who are all high school age now.  Linda tells us she draws a lot of inspiration from her father and mother who both served in the military.  Linda followed in their footsteps and enlisted for 10 years herself.  After getting out Linda didn’t really know what to do.  She’s worked in retail for a bit but started to miss her family life.

Linda then chose to become a heavy equipment operator because she remembered as a child how excited she became when she watched heavy equipment machines in action on different projects.  As Linda grew she realized it was still exciting for her to see the bulldozers, the cranes, and the excavators operate on the job site.

Then and there she knew this is what she wanted to do with her life and she hopes to make her mark in this industry.

Somehow we know not to doubt her.

Kenneth hails from Ville Platte, Louisiana and is married to a lovely lady named Babette.  Kenneth and Babette have spent 27 wonderful years together.

Prior to becoming a professional heavy equipment operator Kenneth spent 12 years driving semi truck pulling tankers over the road.  In 2003 Kenneth decided to hang up his life on the open road and sold his truck.  He soon settled down and worked as the parts and service manager for an RV company, but the economy being the way it is Kenneth knew he had to make another change in his life and went with a field that is a natural fit for him…heavy equipment.
