Please meet Calvin Laster. Calvin successfully completed our Heavy Equipment Operators Program back in August of 2003. Since then he has been operating a variety of equipment for Wayne Brothers in Davidson, North Carolina. Calvin was fortunate to have employment with Wayne Brothers before starting school. Unfortunately it was doing something he no longer enjoyed doing. Although it paid well, Calvin wanted to do more than drive a tanker truck for Wayne Brothers.
Calvin wanted more of a challenge in his life. This desire led him to National Heavy Equipment Operators School. He did very well in school with us. He scored a perfect score in attitude and as far as skill sets; Calvin scored 549 points out of a possible 600 on the equipment. When he left us, Calvin was trained to operate the lion’s share of Wayne Brothers excavating equipment. Calvin routinely operates Bobcat mini’s, John Deere Dozers, and the John Deere 330 Excavator. Calvin has done so well that he is now assigned to a grading crew.

Calvin enjoys sitting around the house when not sitting on a dozer. His pastimes include music and video games. He shares these hobbies with his 3 sons and 7 grandchildren. When it snows, Calvin gets some training on a not so heavy piece of equipment. His wife keeps his skills on the shovel current. Actually, Calvin wanted you to see the snow to remind you that National Heavy Equipment Operators School is in Florida.

Calvin plans to continue
operating equipment for the foreseeable
future. He enjoys the day-to-day
challenges that construction projects
bring and he hopes that being an
equipment operator will be his last
career change. We here at National
are happy for Calvin and grateful
we could play a part in his new
career. We are also happy to award
him the prestigious Featured Graduate
honor.
